After presenting his recent annual government report, Municipal Mayor Mauricio Trejo spoke to the Midday Rotary Club at the Santa Ana Theater of the Public Library of San Miguel de Allende, A.C. to present the achievements of his first year in office to citizens from the foreign and local community as well as to discuss the challenges we face as a society.
He assured that work continues to address the most serious problems such as the lirio pollution in the Allende Dam or the tramway concessions in the city, especially since they are the responsibility of the state. The mayor asked for the participation and support of the citizens, since joining efforts is always successful, considering that the resources of the municipal administration are limited, as well as the processes and times that the authority must comply with according to its authority and competence.
Also on the podium were the trustee Faviola Correa; the secretary of Public Safety, Municipal Transit and Civil Protection, Gabriel Yáñez; and the person in charge of NGOs and attention to the foreign community, Sofía Espinoza. With an audience of almost one hundred people, the dialogue with the citizens continued on topics such as the recovery of public spaces, sports, health services, tourism, and strengthening of the local economy. The municipal president applauded that, «San Miguel de Allende is better every day because of the citizen participation with his government, where the advances during 365 days have been remarkable and have impacted the lives of San Miguel de Allende families.”
In closing, Trejo answered questions from some participants and ruled out the arrival of another transnational WalMart store, «as it is unnecessary and would negatively impact the income of local businesses and family stores.” Lee Carter, current President of Rotarios de San Miguel, as well as other NGO representatives thanked the mayor for his willingness to work in collaboration.
