The First Regional Meeting of Municipal Agencies for Assistance to Women was held in San Miguel de Allende this past June. The purpose was to strengthen actions toward assistance to women in the municipalities.
These municipal actions will be oriented towards the care of women in situations of violence. This agreement came about as the heads of 14 Municipal Women’s Assistance Agencies met with the General Director of the Institute for Guanajuatense Women.
“The agreements that emerge from this meeting will allow us to make the best decisions from the municipalities; institutionalize gender perspective, guarantee women’s access to a life free of violence, and advance towards reaching an egalitarian society much faster, joining efforts from first contact,” said Anabel Pulido López, General Director of the IMUG during the meeting.
She explained that these strengthened actions will be promoted and reviewed through municipal agencies through several venues. The inter-institutional security tables, the Councils to prevent, attend to, punish and eradicate violence, the Systems of Equality between women and men, as well as the Teen pregnancy prevention groups, already installed most of the 46 municipalities.
The commitment was made by the heads of the municipal authorities to continue with the updating, training, professionalization, and certifications with a municipal focus. Also the improvement of protocols and care procedures for women in cases of violence, or sexual harassment. Similarly, the participants were informed about the creation of a municipal platform aimed at equality with which it will be possible to measure the progress of each locality in the area.
Atarjea, Comonfort, Dolores Hidalgo, Manuel Doblado, Purísima del Rincón, Santa Catarina, Santa Cruz de Juventino Rosas, San Francisco del Rincón, San José Iturbide, San Luis de la Paz, San Miguel participated in said regional meeting; as well as Allende, Tierra Blanca, Victoria and Xichu.
There were also additional nine delegates and leaders from: Los Rodríguez, Bordo Colorado Fraccionamiento Brisas, Fraccionamiento San Francisco, Ejido de Zandeta, Col. Jardines, Col. Cañajo, Col. Itzquinapan, Col. Lomas de San José. They also agreed on a work and training meeting in the coming weeks in the municipality of San Luis de la Paz.
