By Carola Rico

The twinning of San Miguel de Allende with The Woodlands was formalized with the signing of a cooperation agreement. It is meant to strengthen local alliances for the benefit of Sanmiguelenses.

This is the first city twinning made by the current municipal government, headed by Mayor Mauricio Trejo. The agreement promotes tourism between the two cities, and reinforces brand positioning and joint image. In addition, it focuses on the attractions of both cities, encourages an increase of visitors, thus benefiting the tourism industries of both the Mexican city and its American counterpart.

This mutual coordination, and cooperation between both tourism associations means an exchange of experiences. The joint effort encourages the development of strategic and sustainable tourism policies, the sharing of good tourism practices, and the promotion of tourism in both cities. The plans include joint participation in exhibitions, conferences, and fairs to promote their individual tourist attractions. An example of the joint effort by all the local associations, and as a fundamental part of a direct benefit for the people of San Miguel, the Collaboration Agreement was formalized with the signatures of Mauricio Trejo and the executive director of Visit the Woodlands, Elizabeth Eddins. In addition, there were the signatures of the president of the Wedding Association, Betty Sucar; the president of CANIRAC, Francisco Aguirre Dávalos; the president of the SMA Hotel and Motel Association, Daniel Velázquez Gómez; the president of the Business Coordinating Council, Ricardo Garrido; the representative of Health and Welfare, Roberto Maxwell; and the representative of Market Street, Noemí González.
