Summer has arrived and we all want to do outdoor activities with our family or friends. It does not matter if we are tourists or locals, in San Miguel de Allende there is a wide range of activities to have fun, ranging from the most exciting to the most peaceful, depending on what you are looking for. Here are some:

ATVs:

You can choose what type of tour you want: drive around the city or take a route in the countryside and visit the chapel of San Miguel Viejo and the Sanctuary of Atotonilco. In the ATVs or all-terrain vehicles you can get to know the city in a different way and find new paths.

Horseback Riding:

To live an adventure in the countryside or a romantic walk through the city, horseback riding is the best option. In addition, you can choose between a short tour or one that lasts all day. If you like camping, some companies also include this service. For those who want to live a more authentic experience, there is a weekly outing from Guanajuato capital to San Miguel de Allende. Costs generally include transportation, guides, horses, water for the excursion, and a delicious home-cooked meal at the end of your adventure.

Balloon flight:

This is one of everyone’s favorite activities. Being able to fly over San Miguel de Allende and its surroundings is an unforgettable experience. The flights take place every day of the week around 6 in the morning, that magical moment just before sunrise.

Kayak on the Dam:

The group Amigos de la Presa Allende has this activity available where you can enjoy the water while you exercise. You will be accompanied by expert guides who guarantee a great experience. The tour is scheduled in advance and it is recommended to leave in the morning. Depending on the height of the water from the dam, you can see the dome of an old sunken church, a construction that was covered by the water when the dam was built.

Hiking:

Take an interpretive tour in San Miguel! Enjoy the landscapes in a different way, walk along the side of the volcano observing the flora and fauna of this unique semi-desert ecosystem.

Cultural Tour to the Cañada de la Virgen Pyramids:

Visitors to the archaeological site can comfortably walk a distance of three kilometers in approximately two hours. The guided tour to the Cañada de la Virgen is one of the best tours in Guanajuato. You will be able to tour the archaeological zone made up of four pyramid complexes, while the qualified bilingual guides provide you with all the information to discover the mysteries related to these ancient structures. This archaeological site had its heyday in the years 600 to 900 AD, and was built for agricultural activities, hunting, and mainly as an observatory of the sky. At the end of the tour you can have a delicious ranchera meal, to complement a day of adventure.

Zipline:

Live the ultimate adventure at 150 meters above a natural canyon, where you can enjoy direct contact with nature in a 100-percent-original environment. In the Aguila de Cola Colorada canyon you can do this fun activity. All people are welcome from 5 to 99 years old. The activity lasts about two hours and you can take pictures of your companions and the incredible landscape.
