As part of the city’s new tourism initiative, «A Day in SMA» was taken on the road to Houston, Texas. The idea was to give leaders of Houston’s tourism sector and local media, as well as 35 different travel agencies, the experience of a wedding in San Miguel.
Dulce Perales Betancourt, president of CANACO SERVyTUR SMA (National Chamber of Commerce, Services and Tourism, San Miguel office), attended the event, where the Chamber showcased and promoted its members’ products and services. Regional food tastings were organized, featuring a delicious selection of traditional delicacies prepared by the Rosewood restaurant. Attendees —travel agents and influencers— had the opportunity to learn firsthand what they can find in San Miguel de Allende.
CANACO SERVyTUR SMA presented some of the services that typically can be enjoyed in what is considered the most beautiful city in the world, according to several U.S. magazines. The city has hot springs, highly acclaimed spas, and top-quality handicrafts produced in Guanajuato. During the event, a ribbon cutting ceremony was held to announce and confirm strategic alliances with a number of other cities. Given the sizeable attendance, San Miguel expects to attract more visitors to support the local economy.
Mayor Mauricio Trejo Pureco also visited the event, accompanied by representatives of the government of Houston and The Woodlands, as well as representatives of Houston’s tourism sector. Dulce Perales Betancourt declared the event a success and a good beginning. She added that getting noticed by the Houston press will greatly benefit San Miguel, and she believes that as long as cooperation between business associations and government continues, much more will be achieved.
