When you get to know San Miguel, you must remember that you are in a World Heritage city! Each construction, each huge tree, or worn-out sidewalk has a story to tell. To immerse yourself in the culture and art of San Miguel, what better than a visit to its museums and art spaces? Some museums were private homes, others safeguard objects that we consider treasures. Do not miss the opportunity to get to see them all.
In this edition of San Miguel in Numbers, we list six museums and spaces you should not miss:
- Casa de Allende Museum: Located on Cuna de Allende 1, in Centro. Home of the hero of the War of Independence, Ignacio Allende.
- La Esquina Museum: It houses over 3 thousand handmade Mexican toys, collected over 50 years. Located in Nuñez 49, Centro.
- Ignacio Ramírez, El Nigromante Cultural Center: This ex-convent currently houses the School of Fine Arts; it includes numerous galleries with exhibitions by top-notch artists. Located at Hernández Macías 75, Centro.
- La Otra Cara de México, Museum of Masks: A private collection of over 500 masks made of clay, leather, and papier-mâché. Crafted by indigenous hands for folk dances and special ceremonies. It is on Cuesta de San José 32, Colonia Azteca.
- Casa del Mayorazgo: This was the former family home of the de la Canal family. Its main attraction is the architecture. You can visit it on Canal 4, Centro.
- Fábrica La Aurora: A former textile factory that now houses numerous art and craft galleries. You can find all kinds of artistry here; paintings, sculptures, antiques, and handicrafts. The space epitomizes the art scene of San Miguel without the need for words. Located at Calzada de la Aurora.
