Not just Tesla; Mexico adds investments to produce electric vehicles

Tesla will not be the only company manufacturing electric cars in Mexico. Other automakers have already made investments in the country. Elon Musk’s decision is just one link in a chain of investments that various companies have brought to the country with their eye on electric vehicle manufacturing.

A little over a month ago, on February 3, BMW reported that it would invest 800 million euros in constructing an electric vehicle plant in Villa de Reyes, in the state of San Luis Potosí. This investment will also bring suppliers, who don’t want to be left behind in producing automotive devices.

In 2021, Ford began producing the Mustang Mach-E electric model for the global market in Cuautitlán, State of Mexico. General Motors has invested more than one million dollars in the Ramos Arizpe plant in Coahuila. Up to now, batteries and electric motors have been assembled. The vehicles will begin production this year. The German company Volkswagen has announced an investment of 7 billion dollars over the next five years with eyes on transitioning to the production of zero-emission vehicles in the US and Mexico.
