International Library Day
International Library Day has been celebrated in many countries every October 24 since 1997 as a day highlighting the importance of libraries for safegauarding our history, culture, writings, and beliefs. It is celebrated to commemorate the destruction of the Sarajevo National Library, which was ruined by fire in 1992 during the Balkans War and resulted in the loss of hundreds of thousands of unique texts. An iconic image of the musician Vedran Smailovic playing his cello in the rubble of the beautiful building— which had also served as the Government House in the 19th century—captured the hearts of the world. Many congratulations to our home, the Biblioteca Pública de San Miguel de Allende, A.C.

Where to Spend the Day of the Dead?
To talk about the Day of the Dead tradition, we must mention, without exception, the Pueblo Magico of Michoacán: Pátzcuaro. This town has preserved its customs in spite of the large number of tourists that visit it every year. Undoubtedly, during the Day of the Dead celebrations, Patzcuaro is a national and international point of reference. The surrounding areas of Patzcuaro, Tzintzuntzan, San Pedro Cucuchucho, Ichupio, Santa Fe de la Laguna, and Ihuatzio have the island of Janitzio as the epicenter of all the celebrations. In the center of Lake Patzcuaro, the festivities begin on October 28 and conclude on November 2. Beginning with the Night of Souls, the first offerings are dedicated to children and young people (Reference: México Desconocido).
