May 15: Teacher’s Day in Mexico

Teacher’s Day, celebrated on May 15 in Mexico, is a date designated to honor all teachers and educators in Mexico. We owe this celebration to President Venustiano Carranza who in 1917 decreed that the teachers of our country be celebrated on May 15. This date was chosen because the feast of Saint John Baptist de La Salle coincides with the anniversary of the taking of Querétaro. This event marked the fall of the Second Mexican Empire commanded by Maximilian of Hapsburg. As a result, the Mexican Republic was consolidated. Every school year in Mexico, the National Education System (SEN) has approximately 2,100,000 teachers.

Mercado Sano Reopens

A few weeks ago, the Civil Protection authorities of San Miguel de Allende temporarily suspended the operation of Plaza Distrito Soma and Mercado Sano. Mercado Sano suffered a fire due to a short circuit in an electrical box. The suspension was due to the lack of security measures, the lack of specification of commercial activities, and the lack of individual regularization of the premises, according to Benjamín Ramírez, who is in charge of social communication for the municipal government headed by Mayor Mauricio Trejo Pureco. The Mercado Sano has reopened its facilities.

Controversy Surrounding the Desfile de Los Locos (Parade of Fools)

Municipal authorities have announced possible measures and the prohibition of the use of terror clown masks in the parade. Now, some residents and followers of Los Locos are supporting the position of Los Crazy Locos. They have announced that «they are no longer interested in participating in the Convite de Locos of June.» This is due to learning that the municipality’s Civil Protection authorities no longer want to see the terror clown masks in the Convite. Many citizens and traditional participants argue that the Crazy Locos give their work and time, and they are a recognized and respected group in the community. It seems that its followers are willing to defend this 100% San Miguel party.
