Merida and San Miguel de Allende
Once again, Condé Nast magazine ranked Mérida and San Miguel de Allende as the best cities in the world in its most recent Readers’ Choice Awards 2022. According to the magazine, the ranking was compiled from the votes of nearly 250,000 survey respondents, who voted for the cities of Mérida, which ranked number four on the Best Large Cities list, and San Miguel de Allende, which was number one on the Best Small Cities list. For many, these awards are valuable for the recognition the community received and the attraction for tourism. For others, such awards have no value. What do you think?
Senate approves extension of militarization until 2028
In 2019, the Senate unanimously approved that the army would perform public security tasks until 2024 while the National Guard was being consolidated. This Tuesday it was divided with 87 in favor and 40 against. The plenary group approved extending the presence of the military on the streets for four more years. The debate was divided between those who claim that the federal government was incapable of building a civilian National Guard as well as strengthening local police despite its commitment to do this since 2019, and those who believe that there is no other way, and if the Armed Forces are not allowed to continue in the streets until 2028, the problem of insecurity will worsen.
