As residents of San Miguel are well aware, Colonia Guadalupe has been characterized as one of the most important scenes in the city for restless, enterprising, and artistic spirits—as is the case of Sofia Rivas and Danilo Filtrof who have a remarkable career in art management and lead an interesting project that consists of three consistent intentions in favor of art and culture. Trapo Galería which premieres new headquarters and has been in operation for more than seven years; and Museo Insular and Perro Fantasma, under the umbrella of what has been baptized as the Complejo Cultural Guadalupe. The first two have the clear intention of opening new spaces for contemporary art; providing meeting places that promote dialogue between visitors and collaborators based on the contents of the exhibitions; and supporting programs with a critical and experimental vocation as stated by their creators. Perro Fantasma, for its part, is gastronomic in nature and offers casual food for breakfast and lunch—hamburgers, wraps, and omelettes which can be enjoyed at an indoor bar or in an outdoor dining area.

Inaugurated in mid-July last year, this cultural venue has already hosted valuable proposals among which we highlight “Panamazonía: Arqueología Viva,” an installation derived from the project presented at the XV Biennial of Cuenca (Ecuador, 2021) by Lima artist Augusto Ballardo; or the exhibition “Nocturna Voz: Image and Memory in Painting” by the young artist from the capital, Alicia Ayanegui, who has also exhibited her work in galleries of international prestige such as OMR, Galería de Arte Mexicano, and Kurimanzutto.

This Friday, February 17, the Complejo Cultural Guadalupe inaugurates two exhibitions not to be missed. Happening at the Museo Insular will be “Temporalis,” an archival review of five years of “Other Things Like This,” an experimental program in which eight artists working in different cities of Mexico participated. It also includes unpublished texts by Manuel Guerrero and Luis Usabiaga. In Trapo Galería: “Beyond the Image,” an exhibition that seeks to emphasize the gallery’s statement in the sense that it works with artists who take their discourses seriously and thus build bodies of work consistent and powerful in form and substance.

The opening cocktail reception will be at 6:30pm at the Complejo Cultural Guadalupe, Antonio Plaza 7, to enjoy the vanguard of these interesting artistic projects.
