In this part of Mexico, well-behaved children receive gifts from the Three Wise Men on January 6. When I was a child, I would write my little letter in October or earlier and ask the Three Wise Men for a couple of toys. The months took forever to pass, but I knew the date was approaching when I turned to the sky and saw three stars moving together. They actually made up Orion’s Belt. My dad would always point to the sky and tell me, “Be good because the Three Wise Men are there, and they are watching you.”

January 5 was always the longest night of my life. I couldn’t sleep with the excitement of knowing that when I woke up, I would find some toys waiting for me on the living room sofa! I would take special care to leave my room cleaner than usual so that the Three Kings would find a neat and pleasant space. Then I would place my little letter to them in a shoe next to my bed.

When sleep finally won me over, and I could close my eyes, the night would go by in a flurry. The next day, January 6, my older brother would wake me up very early to tell me that the Three Kings had arrived. I was elated. All day long, I played with my new toys.

The illusion of Three Kings Day was the best gift my parents gave me. Today, the Three Wise Men can reach all the children who behaved well through our donations to the following associations:
